What connects us to one another?
How do the people we meet, the relationships we build and the experiences we share shape who we are?
These are some of the questions explored by Chris Chinnock and Jo McFarlane through Art of Connection, an exhibition of photography and illustration at the Barbara Hepworth Gallery, University of Huddersfield, from 25th November to 3rd December 2026.
The exhibition brings together two personal artistic responses to our experiences of working creatively with people and communities.
For Chris’ photographic response, he’s been reconnecting with people who have inspired, influenced and supported me during more than 20 years of community work.
Through a series of portraits and conversations, exploring their stories, experiences and perspectives, including some of the challenges and complexities that come with working alongside others.
Jo’s illustrations offer a different perspective, drawing on the people, conversations and connections that have emerged through her own creative community practice.
About Our Creative Connection
Our Creative Connection is a Huddersfield-based social enterprise using photography, film and participatory arts to help people share their experiences, express themselves creatively and show the world from their point of view.
We work alongside people and communities to explore the things that matter to them, creating opportunities for conversations, new connections and different ways of seeing ourselves and one another.
Our work takes many forms, from photography and creative workshops to collaborative exhibitions, publications and films. But at the heart of it is a belief that everyone has something valuable to contribute, and that creativity can help make space for voices, stories and perspectives that might otherwise be overlooked.
Art of Connection offers an opportunity to turn some of that creative attention towards our own experiences, reflecting on the people, relationships and encounters that have shaped us along the way.
