Designer Labels - new project coming soon!

Last week I took part in a participatory grant making event with my friends Dale & Katie from Exclusively Inclusive - we presented our idea for a new collaboration, a project called ‘Designer Labels’ and I am absolutely made up to share that we received the funding we’d requested!

Ever since our first photovoice project together The World As We See It, Katie and me have both felt that we’re really just scratching the surface of what’s possible here and we’ve been keen to find ways to build on it AND it’s just so flipping fun working alongside everyone at Exclusively Inclusive too!

Designer Labels draws inspiration from some of the themes raised through our Photovoice project and also a shared frustration that the significant disparity of life outcomes for people with Learning Disabilities remain, for example did yo know that on average people with learning disabilities DIE over 20 YEARS earlier than the general population.

It’s a shocking statistic right? But this has been the case for years, professionals and practitioners in the health and social care world know this and other awful statistics, and yet nothing changes…. we want to constructively and creatively disrupt that!

I won’t give too much away right now but know this: We’ll be using creativity, community and connection as a way of opening some big conversations. We’re aiming to bring about societal change by confronting the labels, attitude and indifference that lead to such shocking statistics.

We’re hugely grateful to Bradford VCS Alliance for hosting and organising the participatory grant making event - and to West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership (WYHCP) Harnessing the Power of Communities Programme (HPOC).

The process invovled applicants presenting their ideas to all the other applicants who vote on the ideas that they want to see funded. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride that’s for sure and it was amazing to see so many wonderful people and projects - alongside Dale & Katie we presented our 3 mins ‘pitch’ and we were made up to be successful!! So this project is going ahead and I will share much more about it when the time comes!

So grateful to everyone who took part and wishing everyone all the best with their projects!
