Filmmaking with Project CREATE
I recently had the absolute privilege of working with a brilliant group of young people as part of the culmination of Project CREATE, a two-year research project exploring the impact of creative arts on young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Over one weekend, we came together for a filmmaking workshop that invited the young people to explore their personal journeys and reflections through the lens of film.
What made this experience so powerful was the focus we placed on the process as much as the final product.
With only two days to plan, film, and edit, the aim wasn’t to create a “perfect” piece of work.
Instead, it was about expression, teamwork, and creativity.
Each group designed their own ideas, learned the basics of filming and editing, and produced a short film that captured their unique perspective.
We ended the weekend with a showcase, celebrating a set of thoughtful, insightful, and brilliantly creative films which tell the story of the young people’s experience of Project CREATE.
A huge thank you to Danelle Lee, Dr Cristina Harney, and the whole team behind Project CREATE for inviting me to be part of something so special.
Creativity is connection.
